Advancing Women’s Livelihoods & Financial Inclusion in Jere LGA, 2025

Encouraging self-reliance and enabling refugees to earn livelihoods cannot be overemphasised because they are important ways to improve the lives of refugees in protracted situations. Promoting livelihood opportunities can enable refugees to become self-reliant and contribute to the local economies in their countries of asylum. With these acquired skills and experiences, they can also be better prepared for an eventual return to their home country or building a new life in their country of resettlement.

The Sirri Care Foundation team recently met with the Bulama of Salmanti Area of Polo, Jere LGA, Borno State, to strengthen community collaboration for the Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) program. This initiative is a game-changer for women, including IDPs and persons with disabilities (PWDs), equipping them with financial literacy, access to savings, and sustainable livelihood opportunities. By supporting small businesses and introducing aquaculture training, VSLA empowers women to build economic resilience, reduce dependency, and secure a brighter future for their families. With strong community backing, we are taking bold steps toward financial inclusion, self-reliance, and economic empowerment for women in conflict-affected areas.Together, we create lasting change!
